More power to you! Here’s what parents have to say to their children on Daughter’s Day

Sunday September 27, 2020 , 5 min Read

Our daughters are the most precious of our treasures, the dearest possessions of our homes, and the objects of our most watchful love,” says American poet Margaret E Sangster.

Different countries mark the occasion of Daughter’s Day — a day to celebrate our daughters — on different days. In India, it is celebrated on the last Sunday of September, and this year, it falls on September 27.

The day was established in some countries to mark the cause of equality and ease of access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection for the daughters of the nation.

Here’s what entrepreneurs and professionals say about the bond with their daughters and the advice that they would give their children.

What is the special bond that daughters share with their parents?

While all kids have a special bond with their parents, as a mom of a daughter, I can say that they are very sensitive, caring, loving, and empathic. They have this special ability to wrap your hearts around their little fingers and bring a smile on your face after a weary day. They are your tiny "cheerleaders."

What advice would you give your own daughter in the light of your own experiences?

Don't let anyone think of your gender before they give you any kind of opportunity. Self-care and self-love are two separate things. It's very important to take care of your emotional and mental wellness.

What is the special bond that daughters share with their parents?

I have a daughter and a son, so, I definitely cannot put one against the other. Having said that, through your daughters, you get to see a more nurturing, caring, and loving side of the relationship.

What advice would you like to give your daughter in the light of your own experiences?

The faster you learn to adapt, be flexible, learn what to keep, and what to let-go, it helps you to grow in life. Grow in self-confidence and self-esteem, and empower yourself with tools to form your own standards of happiness and success to achieve your dreams.

What is the special bond that daughters share with their parents?

Most of us live in nuclear families nowadays. The bonds that exist in these small units are very strong. When parents grow old and need a hand, their daughters and sons reach out and do the best they can.

What advice would you give your own daughter in the light of your own experiences?

My advice to my daughters has always been — Be honest, be strong, and make informed decisions in life — because at the end of the day, we are different people, and our decisions impact ourselves the most. Life is neither black nor white, but you do get to choose your special shade of grey.

What is the special bond that daughters share with their parents?

A daughter is a supportive and loving friend. Except, daughters are better than friends because they are a part of your being who can understand you like no one else. She can love you and care for you unconditionally. Having a daughter is an extremely exciting, challenging, and rewarding experience, and the bond we share with her is one that holds the power to magnify every joy of life.

What advice would you give your own daughter regarding your own experiences?

I would want her to know that life is meant to be lived freely without the burden of unrealistic expectations. If you desire something or expect something, work for it. Nothing in life comes on a platter, and only hard work and perseverance will get you where you want to be.

I want to empower her as a young woman exploring this world. I will teach her that anything is possible, and she holds the power to create her ideal future. While I know I cannot control every move or decision she will make, I can help her in building a confident mindset that will take her through life.
