Google Chrome to Rate all the HTTP websites as “Not Secure” in the URL bar Beginning July

Emily Schechter, Google Chrome’s Security Manager, published a post announcing that from July 2018 onwards Chrome is going to mark all the HTTP pages as “Not Secure.” It has been declared in an attempt to push the webmasters to acquire HTTPS encryption.

Presently, Chrome is labeling the HTTPS sites with a “secure” sign, which is a green lock symbol. For last many years, Google has shown its disapproval against unencrypted sites. Although Google started down-ranking these sites in 2015, this is the first time it has taken active steps to debase the unencrypted websites. Chrome said that this step is taken to increase the HTTPS-encryption adoption.

While eighty-one websites out of hundred top sites have moved to HTTPS, a large number of Google Chrome traffic has already adopted HTTPS encryption.

HTTP and HTTPS are basically similar; however, “S” in HTTPS refers to the security that means HTTPS comes with an additional level of protection. Hence, it is difficult to hack or inject malware.

So, in case you own a BigCommerce store, you should think of migrating your online store to HTTPS. It will not only help you avoid being flagged as “insecure” by the Chrome but also offers you secure encryption with an added layer of security. And in case, you have no technical knowledge and are wondering how to go ahead and get HTTPS encrypted site; you can consult BigCommerce developer to do the needful for you.
