Video of Bengali bride goes viral after she breaks stereotypes at her own wedding

A video of a Bengali bride shunning age-old rituals and stereotypes is going viral after she is recording saying, “You can never repay parent’s debts”

India is a land of rich culture and traditions. And one of the most common rituals followed by Hindus that can be seen even today is a newly-married bride bidding farewell to her maternal home. As the marriage ceremony comes to an end, the bride bids a teary farewell to her family, before moving to a new family.

But recently, a Bengali bride was hailed for taking a stand and breaking this ritual. The bride shattered stereotypes and refused to cry before leaving home, and said that she will frequently visit her maternal home.

The video footage begins with the traditional ritual of ‘Kanakanjali’, where the bride throws rice to her mother saying she has ‘repaid all her debts’. But, the young woman instead says, you can never repay parents debts.

The Facebook video, which went viral, shows her saying:

“You can never repay parents’ debts.”

The bride, dressed in a red Benarasi saree, can be seen in the video donning a hearty smile and posing for photos with no tears. She is seen telling her mother that she would visit her frequently, whenever she likes because it will always be her house, reports IndiaToday.

Netizens have positively applauded the move, which has won many hearts. The video, which was uploaded on Monday, has so far gained over 72,000 shares and has been viewed by a whopping 3.1 million people, reports the Indian Express.
