The Wire takes note of #MeToo allegations against Vinod Dua

Online news portal The Wire has taken note of the sexual harassment allegations against veteran journalist and consulting editor for the site, Vinod Dua.

Dua was accused on Sunday by documentary filmmaker Nishtha Jain of sexual harassment, stalking and groping. He has denied all the charges. TheWire.in has also issued a statement stating that its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has taken cognisance of the allegations levelled against Dua. As part of the statement, published on its site, the founding editors of The Wire said:

“We have seen Nishtha Jain’s Facebook post where she accuses Vinod Dua, a consulting editor of The Wire, of an incident of sexual harassment in 1989. Dua denies the charge. Though the incident pertains to 26 years before Mr Dua’s association with The Wire, our ICC has taken note of Ms Jain’s allegation. We await the outcome of their deliberations in the matter.”

The filmmaker responded to the move via her Facebook page, saying, “...how can ICC carry out an objective investigation with Vinod Dua still a part of the organisation? I demand that his services be suspended immediately so that their ICC can carry out a full and fair investigation.”

According to The Wire, Dua will release his statement soon.
