Dating startup Betterhalf.ai raises $500K in seed funding
Bengaluru- based Betterhalf.ai will use the funds to build AI capabilities, while continuing to invest further in technology and talent.
Compatibility-based partner search platform Betterhalf.ai today announced it had secured a seed funding of $500,000 through angel investors including Massachusetts Institute of Technology alumnus and former Managing Director of Google India Shailesh Rao; Former Investment Director at Flipkart Vinay Subramanian; FirstPenguin Capital's Rehan A Khan; and other senior leaders from Google, Uber and Amazon.
In a release, the company said it had raised about $750,000 till date, and funds from the current round would be utilised to build the platform's AI capabilities, and for continued investment in technology and talent.
“The AI revolution is bringing better decisions in every industry, be it self-driving cars, ecommerce, music or watching videos online; and transforming the matchmaking space is something we are excited about,” said Pawan Gupta, Co-founder and CEO, Betterhalf.ai.
“The Betterhalf team is building a platform and technology that has the potential to significantly disrupt the matchmaking space," said Rehan Khan, FirstPenguin Capital.
Founded in 2016 by MIT alumni, Pawan and Rahul Namdev, Betterhalf.ai uses artificial intelligence and predictive analysis for professionals to find each other through compatibility scores based on multiple relationship dimensions and their interactions on the product.
It provides a combination of a targeted subset of matches with a quick turnaround time to find compatible partners. The platform provides verified matches with professionals working at companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, LinkedIn, Adobe, and Accenture, to name a few.
In 2015, startups like iCrushiFlush, Banihal, TrulyMadly, Plush, Dil Mil, and Aisle received much love from VCs. International dating apps like Tinder, OKCupid, and Hinge also entered India, tweaking their marketing strategy to balance local values with global dating trends. In India, Betterhalf.ai competes with Wedeterna and Kettiko.
