Doing that thing you do: how mompreneurs rocked in 2016

Doing that thing you do: how mompreneurs rocked in 2016

Thursday December 01, 2016 , 4 min Read

At our worst as well as at our best times, it is our mothers we long for. Mothers are our anchors, fiercest supporters, and best critics. Mum truly is the word and the world!

What makes mothers so special? When women embrace motherhood, they see the world through a different lens. Their first thought is for their babies and because of that, so many mothers take to entrepreneurship — they either start up to solve a problem that concerns children or decide to pursue their dream and be their own bosses so they can do what is best for their child.

Whatever be the reason, moms make strong entrepreneurs. Here are some mompreneur quotes from 2016 that entrepreneurs and mothers can relate to.

From mom to mompreneur

“Maternity is a creative phase where you are looking for a new beginning, thinking afresh, willing to take on the next phase in life with little inhibition, and most importantly, making conscious amends to your lifestyle. This is very akin to the leap one needs to take into entrepreneurship.” — Shriyanka Hore, The Gourmet Food Co

“I became a mother in 2013 and until 2014, I had not even the remotest clue that one day I would be running my own startup. I never tried to be an entrepreneur but a child gives you perspective.” — Harshada Joshi, Happibo

“You can never turn off. Just like there is no such thing as part-time mother, there is no part-time entrepreneur. There is no off switch.” — Ashini Shah, Zeezeezoo

Work-life balance

“It has been a journey driven by loads of passion, but it hasn't been an easy one. Being a mompreneur definitely comes with its own highs and lows. The biggest challenge has been the ‘juggling act’ of trying to find a balance between family and work.” — Amruta Ram, Mumma Diaries

“I don’t have any guilt about being a working mom. You just have to do what feels right for you and your family. If you are happy and feel good about what you do, everything else just falls in place.” — Kinjal Popat, R for Rabbit

“I want to tell other aspiring women entrepreneurs — sometimes you have to put in extra effort to manage home and work. But I found when I am doing something that gives me happiness, I get the energy and will power to go the extra mile.” — Daisy Nath, Assam Silk Shopping

“When I became an entrepreneur, it was easier to find work-life balance because then I was my own boss. I got home by 5.30 pm, and spent time with my children till I get them to bed, and then do international conference calls or emails afterwards.” — Sunita Maheshwari, RxDx and Teleradiology Solutions

“It was a tough start, and felt like taking care of two babies, both demanding a lot of attention and care, but my parents, my husband, and his parents supported me greatly and that made things a lot easier.” — Shruti Katyal, O’Happy Sunshine

Time to change perceptions

“I believe that Indians should change the way they bring up children to boost their self-respect. My parents believed in me, which made me believe in myself. Now I am giving the right message to my child when I continued to work after giving birth.” — Sonia Sharma, GoodWorkLabs

“The expectations on women are unreal — to cook gourmet meals, volunteer to take charge of your kids’ upbringing, education, have perfectly maintained homes, and look like divas and run triathlons while you are at it! My priorities are crystal clear, and I refuse to let others dictate how I must spend my time.” — Jagrati Shringi, Voylla
