This honest cop from Gujarat has collected Rs 2.16 crore in fines against traffic violations

Dhansukh Mensibhai Kachot works as an assistant sub-inspector in Rajkot, Gujarat. In the past 10 years of his service, the 57-years-old cop has collected Rs 2.16 crore in fines against traffic rule violations, which is about 10 percent of his department's total collection.

Dhansukh joined the Gujarat police in 1979 as a constable. In 2006, he moved to the towing department, where, dedicated to his duty, punctuality, and honesty, Dhansukh has single-handedly reported over 1.7 lakh cases.

Since it is quite common for offenders to exhibit their connections and status to escape fines, Dhansukh admits that technology has played a great role in helping him handle difficult situations better. “I always take a picture of the wrongly parked cars on my mobile phone. When the offender resists paying a fine, I show the photographs to them. Woh jaldi jhuk jaate hain,” Dhansukh told The Weekend Leader.

On an average, Dhansukh tows 100 vehicles everyday, which is double the number of wrongly parked vehicles towed by the other towing vehicles in the department.

Rajkot's Assistant Commissioner of police KB Jhala told DNA in an interview, "He is probably the only person in the country to collect fines amounting to Rs 2 crore. Because of his dedication and passion we have never transferred him to any other department."

Dhansukh adds, "I am just doing my job. Whenever I see people breaking traffic rules, I do not leave them without collecting a fine. I want traffic in Rajkot to improve."
