[Photo Sparks] Lights, comics, action – highlights from ComicCon 2015!

The three-day ComicCon programme across Easter weekend included the launch of titles Leo & Capri by Mysore Lakshman Amarnath, and Taranath Tantrik: City of Sorrows, Part 3. Panels covered topics like ‘Sci-fi in Indian Comics.' Featured artistes ranged from Adarsh Panicker and Kruush to Leena Swamy and Manisha Swarnkar.
In a vast celebration of comics and pop culture, the halls of the Olive Convention Centre were packed with stalls and booths displaying comic books, graphic novels, DVDs, 3D printers, T-shirts, bags, party gear, paper cuts and gaming consoles. The extensive range of exhibitors included Amar Chitra Katha, Art Beat, Asian Institute of Gaming & Animation, Bewakoof.com, Blaft Publications, CaptainKYSO.com, ChulbulStore.com, Enthopia, Fukvaas, Graphicurry, Jellyfish Publications, LazyNinja.in, PartyManao.com, Pavitra Paapi, PlanetSuperheroes.com, Raj Comics, Sakura Touch, Smuffwear, Sufi Studios, Wear Your Opinion, WeChat and Zovi.com.
ComicCon India has held events in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, and the 2015 Bangalore edition is spread across an 80,000 square feet venue. High profile speakers this year include Daniel Portman, actor in HBO’s hit series ‘Game Of Thrones,’ and Natalia Tena, who acted as Tonks in the Harry Potter films. Skype live chats have been arranged with writers Ron Marz (Batman/Aliens) and Mark Millar (Nemesis).
Quizzes and awards were held for games, cosplays, publications, covers and writers. The CCI Lifetime Achievement Award has been conferred on Aabid Surti; earlier winners were R.K.Laxman, Mario Miranda and Pran Kumar Sharma. Entertainment company Graphic India, riding India’s youth boom and digital media explosion, believes that the next Stephen Spielberg or JK Rowling could well come from India!
